Our mission is to nurture the spirit of every individual we touch. We are dedicated to improvement, innovation, integrity and excellence in everything that we do. We are not a volume practice treating multitudes of patients per day. We are a small practice of four professionals dedicated to serving you with excellence in every facet of your dental experience with us. We promise we will take the time necessary to build lasting relationships with all our patients and their family members.
Dr. Rayl has 30 years of experience in occlusion (bite disorders). Temporomandibular (TMJ/TMD) joint disorders combined with Biologic orthodontics is our passion. Dr. Rayl is one of very few dental professionals worldwide that have completed training in the four major philosophies of occlusion. He was named to The Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry’s faculty and authored their oral biology curriculum, which is taught to all students as part of the foundations teaching programs. He has taught both nationally and internationally concerning the biological basis and differences between the various philosophies of occlusion and orthodontics.
Dr. Rayl founded CABODENT, “The Center for Biologic Orthodontics and Dento-Facial Esthetics” in 2004 for the sole purpose of changing the standard of care in traditional orthodontics as it is practiced today. He believes that “traditional orthodontics” in treating children today is mainly concerned with straight teeth and not the normal biologic function of the chewing system. Diagnosing and treating biologically must include the entire system and not be isolated to just the smile. Biologic Orthodontic Therapy encompasses the entire chewing system which includes:
- The health and function of the jaw joints
- Neuromuscular physiology
- Airway, speech, tongue and lips
- Upper and lower jaw relationships to the skull
- The bone and gums that support the teeth
- Smile and facial esthetics
- Longevity and lasting natural beauty of tooth form and function
- The overall relationship of the head and neck to the entire body
- Precise alignment and arrangement of teeth for proper function
Unlike traditional orthodontics, Biologic Orthodontic Therapy addresses the entire system, which allows for ideal natural function for years to come.
Our “Comprehensive Diagnostic and Treatment Planning” process is the most thorough in dentistry and orthodontics today. This process allows the Biologic Orthodontic professional and Bioesthetic dentist to ward off potential chewing system problems and intervene as early as possible. Our approach allows children and adults alike to receive conservative treatment solutions, which often eliminates the need for tooth extractions, surgery, and/or cosmetic cover-ups. We incorporate SCP “Stable Condylar Position” (stabilized jaw joint position) as the foundation for all diagnosis and treatment planning. We utilize diagnostic models mounted on a chewing simulator to analyze each patient’s physiologic bite and chewing positions. Our diagnostic photography process is the most extensive in dentistry today. We were one of the first offices nationally to incorporate CBCT (cone beam CAT scan) technology in the study of patient’s TMJs (temporomandibular joints). Our 6-D digital cephalometrics and facial esthetic analysis is trademarked, copyrighted and unique to all of dentistry. Because of our Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment Planning process we are uniquely qualified to assess the following patient concerns:
- Headaches, neck pain or migraines
- Grinding or clenching of teeth
- Muscle or jaw pain
- Broken or worn teeth
- Sleeping problems (snoring or restlessness)
- Difficulty chewing
- Jaw joint noises (clicking or popping)
- Uneven or bad bite
- Crooked teeth
- Unsatisfactory smile
- Profile esthetics
- Lip Esthetics
- Facial Esthetics
Future expectations
As a TMJ or jaw joint specialist we see patients on a daily basis that are experiencing chewing system failures. They frequently complain of headaches, worn teeth and at times missing teeth. Their chewing systems have failed. It may have taken several years before they recognize it but many times over a period of a lifetime these patients have suffered and have not been able to find a solution.
Upon interview, many patients with failed chewing systems have had orthodontic treatment as an adolescent. Traditional orthodontics did not coordinate the entire chewing system to function biologically as nature intended. Of course, many of these patients had at one time an attractive smile, one that they thought or at least wished would last a lifetime.
Biologic Orthodontic Therapy by definition allows the Doctor and patient to arrive at a complete diagnosis and a thorough treatment sequence that staves off the failures that we so often see today. What a gift it is to receive treatment of this type and of even greater importance what greater good can be done for our youngest patients seeking beautiful smiles. Treatment that will last a lifetime.
